Emergency Supply KitAn emergency supply kit is an important asset to have in an earthquake or any natural disaster. It is important for one to have flashlights, a radio, money, identification like IDs, clothing, important documents such as birth certificates, and a first aid kit. It is also imperative that one has 72 hours worth of water (1 gallon per person per day, and 72 hours of non-perishable food(canned foods). These materials are the bare minimum. Things Above Your BedBeware of heavy objects above your bed. Do not have a shelf above or near anywhere you rest your head (paintings, clocks, etc...) because it could result in a serious head injury. Keep heavy objects on lower shelves, so if something does fall, it does a minimal amount of damage.

Know How to Use a Fire ExtinguisherOne must know how to operate a fire extinguisher. There are gas leaks and electrical wires that come into contact with gas, which causes fire. A bucket of water is great, but proper use of a fire extinguisher during a house fire makes everyone safer. Everyone except young children should learn how to properly operate one.
Do Not Rely On CellphonesIn an earthquake, cell towers often fall over or get disconnected. One should not rely on cell phones for this reason. There should be enough radios in the house for everyone in the family to have one. If you do not know where to buy one, go to your nearest REI or visit this link: https://www.redcross.org/store/red-cross-frx2-eton-emergency-radio/FRX2.html
